Getting Creative with Fundraiser Ideas
70We’ve always been told that money does not grow on trees. This is a fact we have to wrestle with everyday. We all want to be able to buy the things we like, eat the food we crave, and even support the various groups within our community. With our limited resources, there sometimes isn’t enough money for everything. So, you might ask, “What are some ways we can raise money for the various groups or causes we support?” This is where you can get creative with all sorts of fundraiser ideas. Let us discuss some of them here.
The simplest way of raising funds would be through selling things: you buy something for less than how much you intend to sell it for, sell it, and keep the profits. This “something” can be anything, from food and drinks to novelty items, and everything in between. You are only limited by your imagination in deciding what you want to sell: as long as people are buying and you are raising funds for your cause, feel free to choose your merchandise.
The raffle is a well-known variation of selling things in order to raise funds. In this sense, the “something” you are selling is the chance to win something more valuable (anything from a fraction of the total earnings of the raffle to more food and drinks, as long as it exceeds the original cost of the ticket). One of the simplest forms of this is the 50/50 raffle: a person buys a number of tickets for a fixed price, you tear said tickets (which have the same ticket number on both halves) in half, and you draw the winning numbers from the halves you keep. This is one of the simplest, yet most effective fundraiser ideas, and it has proven its worth through the years.
And then we have fundraising events, which are always a good excuse to get together and have a good time, while simultaneously raising money for your cause. Garage sales, benefit concerts, fun runs, picnics, pageants and the like have proven to be enjoyable occasions that gather hundreds, even thousands, of supporters, where people would happily spend in exchange for a good time.
And don’t think that you can’t combine these two. Sales and raffle draws make good venues for huge events that gather hundreds of people in one place, later to translate to even more money for your cause.
As said before, creativity is the name of the game here. The more creative and unique an idea is, the greater the chance that people will warm up to it and support your band, team, project, church activity or nonprofit organization.
This article is just the beginning: the limits of your thinking are the only thing keeping you from coming up with your own original, creative and effective fundraiser ideas. Be sure to plan your fundraiser efficiently and you’re well on your way to supporting your cause.
