Good Wedding Programs
77A good wedding program can make the difference between a positive wedding experience and a negative one, especially for larger weddings. The essential parts of the good wedding programs let people know any information about how the weddings will proceed, as well as providing information that will make the wedding experience more personal for the visitors.
In terms of letting the people at weddings know how to proceed, wedding programs will typically give direction about when the weddings are over and how to proceed to the wedding receptions. In terms of making the experience personal, particularly at larger weddings, those involved in the wedding process should be listed. Really great wedding programs will go as far as to say how each participant relates to the groom and/or bride.
Further, the wedding programs should let those who participated in the weddings know that their participation was highly valued by making public, permanent acknowledgment of this participation in the wedding programs. Also, acknowledgment should be made in wedding programs of the most important people in making the groom and bride who they are.
Wedding Programs: Describing the Ceremony
The wedding ceremony section of the program should at least contain the names of the participants. In most cases, it should also say what each participant's role in the wedding is. Usually, the participants' roles in the wedding will be listed in the order in which they occur. Proper planning should ensure that nobody participates in the wedding without being listed on the program.
Wedding Programs: Describing the Organizers
There are usually many people involved in the planning, arrangements, organization, and details of the wedding that will not have a direct participatory role, or will have an organizing role that goes beyond the participatory role and deserves special mention. All of these people should at least have their names printed in a special thanks section. For more major planning activities, a special section describing the roles they had can be included.
Wedding Programs: Instructions
A wedding should be a straight-forward experience. All weddings do things a little differently, but most function in a similar order. However, if you don't list what is happening and where people need to go and what they need to do at each step of the way, it can become a chaotic, confusing event. You should include times and instructions for the reception and other wedding events in wedding programs.
